Legalized translations

We provide translation services legalized by a Notary Public. Legalized translations are made from English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and 25 other foreign languages.

Legalized translations are another important translation service with specific requirements and different purposes than certified translations. Here is what you need to know about legalized translations:

What are legalized translations?

Legalized translations are official translations that have been authenticated by a notary public. The notary does not certify the translation, but the signature/stamp of the certified translator that is registered in his archive.

Legalized translations are an essential aspect of international communication and collaboration. Proper planning, meeting the requirements and working with qualified professionals will help ensure that your documents are recognized, valid and accepted in legal and administrative contexts abroad or in home country.

When legalized translations are required?

Legalized translations are often required for official documents that will be submitted abroad or in legal or administrative contexts. These may include documents such as birth, marriage or divorce certificates, diplomas, school transcripts, notary documents, contracts, powers of attorney, title deeds and others.

Legalization service is requested in particular for the final documents to be submitted to public institutions such as: city hall, court, bank, notary office, embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chamber of Notaries Public, Trade Registry Office, school institutions, etc.

Legalization process

The legalization process may vary depending on the country and the requirements of the relevant institution or authority. Generally, the process involves the following steps:

  1. Translation: First, the original document is translated into the target language by a certified translator.
  2. Certification of the translation: After the translation is completed, it must be authenticated by the certified translator who performed the translation. This step confirms that the translation is according to the original.
  3. Legalization of the translation: In order to carry out the notary legalization process, the documents must be prepared according to the laws of public notaries and presented at the time of legalization only in original format. In order to carry out the notary legalization process it is necessary to request the original documents, because at the time of legalization we have the obligation to submit them to the notary together with the translations.

 Other relevant notary procedures:

  • Certified date: Documents under private signature (those not issued by a state institution) can only be legalized by applying a conclusion of a certified date by the notary public. This conclusion will be formulated in Romanian and will be part of the original document.
  • Legalized copy: Is a notary procedure that allows customers to use a document in accordance with the original document, but without alienating the original document. In order to make the legalized copy, the original document must also be submitted to the notary.
  • Apostille or Superlegalization: A procedure that causes documents issued in Romania to have an impact in another signatory or non-signatory state of the Hague Convention.

What is the difference between authorized and legalized translations? The main difference between these two types of translations lies in the authentication and legalization process. The certified translation certifies that the translator has the necessary competence to carry out the translation and the translation was carried out in accordance with the original document, while the legalized translation confirms that the translation is authentic and the translator's signature and stamp are validated by a notary public.
